Fabulous Carpet Fiasco

When the Hubby and I bought our home we knew that the carpet would need to be replaced eventually but that it was good enough for now. What we didn’t know was about three weeks later we would have two puppies that would change the status of the carpet from “good enough for now” to “AHHHH! We NEED new carpet!”

It so happened that the In-laws had a nice sized roll of new carpet in their attic that they were more than willing to part with. We discovered this piece of happy news while assisting in the cleaning of their garage and attic.

“Fabulous!” we thought. We will only have to buy carpet glue and padding. That’s good! We arrive at Home Depot (after enlisting the help of my Dad and Brother) to buy the carpet padding. While we know exactly how much padding we need, we have to buy the whole roll (twice as much as we need) at $0.30 a square foot, stretching our budget. That’s bad! We suck it up, buy the padding, and head home. At home the old, nasty carpet comes out with great ease, as does the old nasty carpet padding. That’s good! We roll out the carpet from the In-laws and discover that the nice sized roll of carpet is less than half of what we need. We have twice the padding and half the carpet that we need for the living room. That’s bad! We already ripped out the old stuff, threw it away and now have carpet tack sticking up everywhere. Although the Hubby is not happy about it, we have to buy carpet NOW! We return to Home Depot to price carpet. Finding a color we agree on at a price that is not ridiculous we order our carpet. That’s good. It takes two weeks to get delivered. That’s bad. In that two week time period the Hubby has to have a very sensitive procedure done. So the house is a mess, the Hubby is in recovery, and the carpet is on its way. Well, the carpet on its way is good, I guess. Carpet arrives. Carpet installation takes special tools, special tools that a friend of Dad owns, so we thought. Back to Home Depot to rent tools. Budget? What Budget? *Sigh* that’s bad. Brother installs carpet. It looks and feels amazing. And that is Fabulous!

Fabulous Finds

While looking online for the location of Redesign by Goodwill, I saw on the events calendar that Thursdays are dollar days. Now, whether or not it is like the 50% off Saturdays, where EVERYTHING is 50% off, I know not. Worth finding out? YES! Unfortunately it was only the green tag and 32 week items that were a dollar. But all was not lost. I got a $45 pair of shiny black, brand new, flats for $6. Three days later the dogs had a shiny black, brand new, doggie snack. Fabulous!

Anyway, I found the location for Redesign by Goodwill and the hubby and I decided to go check it out. We are not above buying furniture from Goodwill; especially if the pieces are higher end, like Redesign claims. After driving FOR-EV-ER, passing several Goodwill stores, we arrived at the semi-rundown building. So far, unimpressed. After walking around the store, evaluating quality of pieces and comparing prices, still not impressed. Quality low, even by Goodwill standards. Prices high, especially considering quality. Fortunately I had already researched the particular piece I wanted (a futon) and knew the retail price. A trip to a clean, well lit, conveniently located Target later and the Hubby has seating for his man cave. Fabulous.

Fabulous Schedules

Sometime in early November…

Me: Hey Hubby, I have next Thursday off for Veterans Day. I could take Friday off too. What do you think?
Hubby: I have to work both days, so whatever.

Thursday – Veterans day – lunch time

Hubby: Hey, I looked and Friday isn’t waitlisted so I could take the day off with you.
Me: I didn’t take it off. I figured since you were working I would just save my vacation time.
Hubby: Oh, okay.

Later that same day…

Hubby: I took tomorrow off anyway.

Fabulously Weird

The hubby and I have been together for over five years now and just went to our first concert together. We do not share a love of Rush, Dream Theater, Lady Gaga or Pink. We do share a love of the Beatles, that's about it. Considering their situation, I don't think we will be seeing them live any time soon. So who did we go see? Weird Al at Celebrity Theatre. Very tiny venue with a rotating stage mean not a bad seat in the house! Alfred Matthew Yankovic, the three time Grammy Award winner, puts on one heck of a show!

Before the show the hubby and I enjoyed an amazing dinner at Humble Pie (thank you Lori for introducing me to their phenomenal French fries!). In short, my night was Fabulous!

Fabulous Sneak Peeks!

Oh how many hours I have spent playing The Sims! Creating layouts of my dream home. Rearranging the furniture. Choosing the colors on the walls. Picking out and caring for the landscaping. What a waste to guide a virtual person through virtual career development and virtual relationship building while sitting in my home on my computer alone. A much better use of my time would include advancing my own actual career and building actual relationships. I have learned this lesson and instructed the hubby to NOT fix the issues my computer is having with running this game. Before, however, my computer starting having an issue with the virtual world I spent so much time in, I was able to put the game to some very real use. Using The Sims to create the layout of your home and then rearranging the furniture in that home to convince your husband that a red kitchen is a good idea, Fabulous!

Fabulous Finds!

The hubby was busy paying attention to one of his many hobbies. I was trying to cope with the lack of attention I was receiving. One of my favorite ways to pass time is to organize and clean. This time I choose to tackle my make-up closet, also known as the back bathroom. Our back bathroom is not fully functional so I have Frankenstein-ed it to fit my storage needs. The hubby rarely enters this very feminine room. Anyway, as I was cleaning and organizing my "woman cave" I found 2 compacts each containing 3 eye colors that I had no idea I had. Fabulous!

Fabulous Desserts!

The hubby and I were discussing stress the other day on our way home from the grocery store. We came to the conclusion that I have absolutely nothing to worry or stress about. First of all, and most importantly, the Lord’s got it all under control. As long as I am doing my best to live in His will and not my own, I am good! Now if we could all just accept that wholly and completely, there would be no stress anywhere for anyone. But that’s just not the case. We as women (or men, I don’t not know who my readers may be) worry about money, family, jobs, church, friends, shopping, bills, weight, health, image, marriages, social events, etc. Why? Can we all agree here and now to think on things that are worth our time, things that are more, Fabulous?

Fabulous Quality Time

The hubby and I now have a new activity to do together, play video games. Playing video games isn't "new" to either one of us. However, we have had quite a time finding one we could both enjoy. The biggest problem we have faced is the fact that I am really a very poor video game player. Who wants to play a game when they KNOW they are going to lose EVERY time. Throwing a game now and then doesn't help the situation. I am so bad that I KNOW when he lets me win. Well, that has all come to an end. Super Mario Galaxy 2 has a special feature that allows for two player to cooperate. I am told this is a two player co-op... whatever. All I know is that I get to be the little pinkish star that AUTOMATICALLY moves around and follows Mario (the Hubby). I help by using the Wii-mote to click on coins (the pinkish star then AUTOMATICALLY collects them), click on enemies (the pinkish star then AUTOMATICALLY pins them down so Mario can kill them), and best of all I can to nothing to HURT Mario! I can join in the middle of the game. I can quit in the middle of the game. Both of which have no consequence on game play. Fabulous!

Fabulous Sunday morning

Woke-up on time for church. There was nothing to eat in the house. The hubby took me to Einstein’s Bro. Bagels. They toast and butter your bagel for you! Fabulous. I also got a caramel-something coffee which I dare say was better than Dunkin’s version. Got to church and put together communion. Service was good, women’s class was great. Came home and got chores done, read through the paper, gathered coupons. Got super excited at the Target ad. Buy two Wii games get a $20 gift card! And the hubby’s shirts were on sale for $10 each. Get to Target and find a picnic basket and blanket (which I had just, the day before, been telling the hubby I wanted) 75% off, making the set $8! Leave Target with no perishables and decide we would really like lunch. What do I spot across the parking lot? CHIPOTLE! (The hubby’s favorite eatery) Eat lunch, go home. Continue chores including grocery shopping and more laundry. Wait till night fall and go to my parents with a friend to roast marshmallows and eat s’mores! Aren’t days that are blessed by God just Fabulous?
